Mille regretz de vous abandonner
Et d’eslonger vostre fache amoureuse,
Jay si grand dueil et paine douloureuse,
Quon me verra brief mes jours definer.

He scorned the cross’s shame
In fair Gethsemane,
To drink the cup of wrath
That now hath rescued me.

His bitter death hath brought
My life to glory’s crown,
His cross a Tree of Life
Which laid him suff’ring down.

O Jesus, sinner’s friend,
What sorrow thou didst dare!
How wonderful that God
My sharp reproach should bear!

And here is my delight:
That Christ hath pierc’d the grievous night.

(Not a sonnet.)
