Scapegoat and Sacrificial Victim

On Good Friday, we mourned that we had cast out the King of Israel from inside the walls of Jerusalem and cut him off from the land of the living and slain him in the deadness of our hearts. And according to the Lamentations of Jeremiah,

O vos omnes qui transitis per viam:
O all ye that pass by the way,
attendite et videte
attend and see:
si est dolor sicut dolor meus.
If there be any sorrow like to my sorrow.

Versus:
Attendite, universi populi, et videte dolorem meum.
Attend, all ye people, and see my sorrow:
Si est dolor similis sicut dolor meus.
if there be any sorrow like to my sorrow.

Ecce homo.
