Conquering King

The King of glory precedes his Church in war on the realm of Satan. This chant of the Knights Templar is no ‘Kumbaya’:

Crucem sanctam subiit
qui infernum confregit,
accinctus est potentia,
surrexit die tertia. Alleluia!

‘He bore the Holy Cross who broke the power of hell; he was girded with power; he rose again the third day. Alleluia!’

Surrexit Christus
Et illuxit populo suo,
Quem redemit sanguine suo.
Alleluia!

‘The Christ has risen and shone upon his people, whom he has bought back with his own blood. Alleluia!’

Crucem sanctam subiit,
qui infernum confregit,
accinctus est potentia,
surrexit die tertia. Alleluia!

Surrexit Christus;
Iam non moritur:
Mors illi ultra non dominabitur.
Alleluia!

‘The Christ has risen; now he does not die: death will not master him. Alleluia!’

Crucem sanctam subiit,
qui infernum confregit,
accinctus est potentia,
surrexit die tertia. Alleluia!

Surrexit Christus;
Lapidem quem reprobaverunt aedificantes,
hic factus est in caput anguli.
Alleluia!

‘The Christ has risen; the stone that the architects rejected, he has become the chief cornerstone. Alleluia!’

Crucem sanctam subiit,
qui infernum confregit,
accinctus est potentia,
surrexit die tertia. Alleluia!
