Atonement Emerged

Who shall save me from this body of death, this seed of fallen Adam? The Father gave his only Son just to sprinkle our hearts with his blood. The earth was shaking in the dark, and then all mortal flesh kept silence. Dum transisset Sabbatum, then a second time,

Verbum caro factum est
The Word was made flesh
et habitavit in nobis,
And dwelt among us:
Cujus gloriam vidimus,
whose glory we have seen,
gloriam quasi unigeniti a Patre,
glory as of the only-begotten by the Father,
plenum gratiæ et veritatis.
full of grace and truth.

V. In principio erat Verbum,
In the beginning was the Word,
et Verbum erat apud Deum,
and the Word was with God,
et Deus erat Verbum:
and the Word was God:

Cujus gloriam vidimus,
whose glory we have seen,
quasi unigeniti a Patre,
as of the only-begotten by the Father,
plenum gratiæ et veritatis.
full of grace and truth.

V. Gloria Patri et Filio
Glory be to the Father and to the Son
et Spiritui Sancto,
and to the Holy Ghost,

plenum gratiae et veritatis!
full of grace and truth!

Out of the fullness of his riches he has come, out of the Holy of Holies, in his divine initiative, to feed us manna in our abject poverty, the manna which is his own flesh. How can this man give us his flesh to eat? Behold, the reality lives in the drama: to us comes the eucharistic beneficium to bind us all together with Christ, our great High Priest who appears holy before the Father and in his own person represents God’s love to us.

We were drowned in waters of deathly stillness.

Though we do adore God, falling down in prostration to salute him who is always present, yet the initiative lies with YHWH to give us himself – with the Father to give us the life-giving Son – and with YHWH to present us to himself as a Bride, pure and holy. With blessing in his hand, Christ our God to Earth descendeth, our full homage to demand in heart and flesh, our full union to bind in Word and Spirit. Alleluia.
